Knowing Your Why in Direct Sales
If you are in Direct Sales you have heard someone, somewhere ask “What is your why?”. Why are they always asking what it is? How do you come up with YOUR WHY? Why is knowing your why so important? Can your why change? Why are there so many questions about YOUR WHY?
I am gonna try to help you with all of that….I am a straight talker so there will be no fluff and stuff! So, let’s start off with why do leaders and those in the industry ask you what your why is. Your leader wants to know what makes you tick! They want to get to know you and knowing your why helps them get to know you!
How do you come up with YOUR WHY? Well, that is all you! You need to dig deep on this one. Your why should be what drives you. It should scare you a little! Why do you want it to scare you a little? Because your why is what will drive you and your business! It will light your fire and give you the strength you didn’t know you had! When you are thinking of your why don’t just go with the first thing that comes to your mind, question that, why did you pick that, what would make your life or your families life better with that why? Who is that why truly helping? If you are a woman your why will probably have to do with your family (we always overlook ourselves and our needs) but should we? It’s not selfish to think of yourself and we all know that saying “if Momma ain’t happy ain’t no one happy” So dig through the layers of your why! For instance, you want to help bring extra money into your family. Great, that is awesome but why do you want to bring extra money in? What is that extra money going to pay for? How is that going to make your life better? Oh, the extra money you want to bring in is so your husband doesn’t have to work two jobs and miss so much family time or your car is on it’s last leg and you really need a new one but a new car payment just isn’t in your budget or (and I have been here before) you have too much month and not enough money. Dig through those layers! I spoke to one woman who said “I want to have extra money”, I said that’s great but is that why burning a fire in your belly? “NO,” she said, so dig deeper why do you want extra money, do you want to go on a trip, pay bills, help your husband? She sat and thought and she said “all of those are great but I want to earn extra money so I can go back to school and finish my degree! You see she had stopped going to school because she became pregnant. She raised her awesome son but now she wanted to focus on something for her! And guess what, her why led to her success and also gave her the drive to get back in school, pay for her school from her business and graduate! Having a why is a pretty big deal, but dig deep for your true why!
Can your why change? Most certainly! I know when I started in direct sales several years ago my why was to help my family recover from losing everything because of a toxic home. We had nothing but the clothes are on our backs and had lost our brand new dream home due to it being built with drywall that was toxic. So, I took a chance and signed up….and I found AMAZING success with the company! The kind of once in a lifetime success and in less than 18 months I made a six figure income! My why changed, I wanted to help others find that kind of success! I want to share the knowledge that I gained and to help them not make the mistakes I made!
